Child Safeguarding Policy

KICKEMBOX is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people who attend our classes. We recognise our responsibility to take all reasonable steps to ensure children are protected from harm, abuse or neglect.

This policy applies to all instructors, assistants, volunteers and anyone involved in delivering KICKEMBOX activities.

 

1. Our Commitment

At KICKEMBOX, the welfare of children is paramount. We aim to provide a safe, positive and supportive environment where children can learn kickboxing with confidence.

We are committed to:

  • Keeping children safe from harm

  • Promoting positive behaviour, discipline and respect

  • Listening to children and taking their concerns seriously

  • Acting promptly and appropriately if safeguarding concerns arise

 

2. Scope of This Policy

This policy applies to:

  • All children under the age of 18 attending KICKEMBOX classes

  • All KICKEMBOX staff, instructors and helpers

  • All training sessions, events and activities run by KICKEMBOX

 

3. Principles of Safeguarding

KICKEMBOX follows these key safeguarding principles:

  • Every child has the right to feel safe and protected

  • Children should be treated with respect, dignity and fairness

  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility

  • Any concerns must be acted upon promptly

 

4. Roles & Responsibilities

Safeguarding Lead

The Safeguarding Lead is responsible for:

  • Managing safeguarding concerns

  • Keeping records securely

  • Liaising with parents and external agencies if required

 

5. Appropriate Conduct

All instructors and helpers must:

  • Treat all children with respect and courtesy

  • Use positive reinforcement and appropriate language

  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times

  • Never use physical punishment, intimidation or inappropriate language

  • Avoid being alone with a child wherever possible

Physical contact is limited to what is necessary for instruction, safety or correction, and is always appropriate, minimal and explained.

 

6. Supervision & Safety

  • Classes are structured and supervised at all times

  • Age-appropriate training methods are used

  • Controlled contact only, where applicable

  • Clear class rules are explained and enforced

Parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring children are collected promptly after sessions.

 

7. Responding to Safeguarding Concerns

If a child:

  • Discloses abuse or harm

  • Shows signs of neglect or distress

  • Raises a concern about behaviour

KICKEMBOX will:

  1. Listen calmly and take the child seriously

  2. Not promise confidentiality

  3. Record the concern accurately

  4. Take appropriate action, which may include contacting parents or relevant authorities

Where there is immediate risk, emergency services will be contacted.

 

8. Reporting Concerns

Any safeguarding concerns should be reported immediately to the Safeguarding Lead.

If a concern involves the Safeguarding Lead, advice will be sought from the local safeguarding authority or NSPCC.

 

9. Record Keeping

  • All safeguarding concerns are recorded factually and securely

  • Records are stored confidentially and only accessed where necessary

  • Information is shared strictly on a need-to-know basis

 

10. Online & Digital Safety

KICKEMBOX:

  • Does not privately message children directly

  • Communicates with parents or guardians regarding children

  • Will not share images or videos of children without consent

 

11. Policy Review

This policy is reviewed regularly and updated as required to reflect best practice and legal guidance.
